Makena Landing Makena Landing is located off of Makena Road. There isn't much sandy beach here, mostly a lava shoreline and not well suited for swimming with children. The park itself has picnic tables and BBQ's with beautiful views of the coastline making it a great place foe lunch. You can even grab some food from one of the food trucks located on Makena rd, usually right the stop sign. There is plenty of parking and nice restrooms. We've even seen chickens running loose on more than one occasion .  You will find turtles swimming close to shore. For snorkeling enter the water and follow the shore to the right out to the point. Be careful as the tides can change quickly and never go in if you see a large swell.

The landing is the  starting point for most South Maui kayak tours . The most popular area is 5 graves 5 caves which is easier to get to by kayak. This spot has loads turtles and fish with many underground arches and caves for divers. Most tours will also swing by Maluaka ( Turtle Town) for some more snorkeling. If you are a good swimmer you can head north following the shoreline to reach 5 Graves 5 Caves ( this is a 1/4 mile swim in usually choppy water). You can also reach a shore snorkel entry by driving a little bit north on Makena. Park in the dirt lot across the street from the Beach Access sign. That sign marks the path to Five Caves. To the right of the path you may see the original graves that gave it the name. Do not leave valuables in your car.
